The scores and dispositions of candidates for this examination will be merged with previous exam participants. If you are currently on the list and you choose to reapply you will forfeit your current rank and score. Your new score/disposition will replace your current score and rank. Alameda County Social Services Agency is recruiting for the position of Estate Investigator. The Alameda County Social Services Agency is comprised of 2,400 men and women working collectively and in partnership with community-based organizations to serve the needs of the community. Services are provided through five departments: Agency Administration and Finance, Adult, Aging and Medical Services, Children and Family Services, Workforce and Benefit Administration and Policy Office. The Agency assists approximately 11.3 percent of Alameda County's residents. Benefits programs contribute over $278 million to the local economy through cash assistance and CalFresh (formerly known as Food Stamps). Every month, more than 52,000 people receive CalWORKs (assistance for families with children), CalFresh and General Assistance. Every month health insurance is made available to more than 78,000 people through the Medi-Cal program. More than 11,000 frail, elderly and disabled individuals receive in-home care, adult protection and support managing their affairs monthly and 16,000 seniors will receive services through the Area Agency on Aging throughout the year. 3,700 children are in foster care. More than 1,600 reports of child abuse or neglect are filed with SSA each month. Emergency shelter is made available to 415 people nightly. Supplemental Questionnaire: A properly completed Supplemental Questionnaire must be submitted with each application. Applications and Supplemental Questionnaires must be in the possession of the Human Resource Services Department by 5:00 p.m. on the Last Day for Filing. Failure to submit the Supplemental Questionnaire will result in disqualification.
In order to participate in the examination process, applicants must qualify through one of the following patterns:
Education:
Possession of a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university, with a major in public administration, business administration, accounting, or a closely related field; AND
Experience:
The equivalent of two years of full time paraprofessional level experience investigating, analyzing, managing or controlling real and personal property and other financial resources for a public agency or a financial institution. (An additional two years of such experience may be substituted for the required degree.)
License:
Possession of a valid California Motor Vehicle Operator’s license is required.
Special Requirements:
1. A thorough background investigation will be conducted of all prospective Estate Investigators to ensure they are suitable for this line of work.
2. Estate Investigators are generally assigned to work day shifts, however, incumbents may be required to work evenings, nights, weekends and holidays.
3. Physical ability to lift and/or move heavy/bulky objects weighing up to 75 pounds and remove them using acceptable removal techniques.
4. Physical ability to climb stairs.
NOTE: The Civil Service Commission may modify the above Minimum Qualifications in the announcement of an examination.
THE EXAMINATION WILL CONSIST OF the following steps: 1) A review of candidates' applications to verify possession of minimum requirements. Those candidates who possess the minimum requirements for the class will move on to the next step in the examination process. 2) A review of candidates’ Supplemental Questionnaires to determine the best qualified applicants to continue in the next step in the examination process. 3) An oral interview which will be weighted as 100% of the candidate's final examination score. The oral interview may contain situational exercises. CANDIDATES MUST ATTAIN A QUALIFYING RATING ON EACH PORTION OF THIS EXAMINATION. We reserve the right to make changes to the announced examination components.
