THIS IS A NEW ASSEMBLED EXAMINATION. The eligible list resulting from this examination will cancel any existing list and may last approximately one year, but can be extended.
This recruitment is to fill one position within the Alameda County Social Services Agency.
Supplemental Questionnaire: A properly completed Supplemental Questionnaire must be submitted with each application. Applications and Supplemental Questionnaires must be submitted online to the Human Resource Services Department by 5:00 p.m. on the Last Day for Filing. Failure to submit responses to the Supplemental Questionnaire will result in disqualification.

The Agency
The Alameda County Social Services Agency is comprised of 2,400 men and women working collectively and in partnership with community-based organizations to serve the needs of the community. Services are provided through five departments: Agency Administration and Finance, Adult, Aging and Medical Services, Children and Family Services, Workforce and Benefit Administration and Policy Office.
The Agency assists approximately 11.3 percent of Alameda County's residents. Benefits programs contribute over $278 million to the local economy through cash assistance and CalFresh (formerly known as Food Stamps). Every month, more than 52,000 people receive CalWORKs (assistance for families with children), CalFresh and General Assistance. Every month health insurance is made available to more than 78,000 people through the Medi-Cal program. More than 11,000 frail, elderly and disabled individuals receive in-home care, adult protection and support managing their affairs monthly and 16,000 seniors will receive services through the Area Agency on Aging throughout the year. 3,700 children are in foster care. More than 1,600 reports of child abuse or neglect are filed with SSA each month. Emergency shelter is made available to 415 people nightly.
The Position
The Staff Development Supervisor position is found within the Social Services Agency and reports to the Staff Development Manager. The position will be responsible for planning, assigning, reviewing and evaluating the work of Staff Development Specialists and Trainers who deliver a comprehensive program of staff development and training for professional, paraprofessional and clerical employees within the Social Services Agency.

Either Pattern Number I
Experience:
The equivalent of one year of full-time experience in the classification of Staff Development Specialist or in an equivalent or higher level classification in the Alameda County classified service. (Non-classified includes District Attorney’s Office, Hospital Authority, and the Consolidated Courts.)
Or Pattern Number II
Education:
Possession of a Baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university with a major in business or public administration, social or behavioral science, education or closely related field.
AND
Experience:
The equivalent of two years of full-time experience as a staff trainer with responsibility for developing and presenting a wide range of staff development programs.
Additional qualifying experience may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis up to a maximum of four years. One additional year of qualifying experience may be substituted for the required, academic major.
NOTE: The Civil Service Commission may modify the above Minimum Qualifications in the announcement of an examination.
THE EXAMINATION WILL CONSIST OF the following steps: 1) A review of candidates' applications to verify possession of minimum requirements. Those candidates who possess the minimum requirements for the class will move on to the next step in the examination process. 2) A review of candidates’ Supplemental Questionnaires to select the best qualified applicants to continue in the process. 3) An oral interview which will be weighted as 100% of the candidate's final examination score. The oral interview may contain situational exercises. CANDIDATES MUST ATTAIN A QUALIFYING RATING ON EACH PORTION OF THIS EXAMINATION.
