Currently, the Alameda County is recruiting for a full-time position, Assistant Deputy Director, in the Community Development Agency, Lead Poisoning Prevention Department.
The Alameda County Lead Poisoning Prevention Department’s mission is to prevent lead poisoning and to promote health and safety in the home. This department is a multidisciplinary organization that serves the community in working to eliminate environmental lead contamination, prevent lead poisoning and improve health outcomes by addressing unsafe housing conditions.

Under general direction, the Assistant Deputy Director, Community Development Agency, is responsible for the day-to-day operations of one of the divisions in a functional department of the Community Development Agency, acts as Deputy Director, Community Development Agency in his/her absence only when assigned, and performs related assignments as required.
The Assistant Deputy Director reports to and assists a Deputy Director in managing and implementing the programs of a functional department and executing the policies of the Agency. The Assistant Deputy Director is responsible for directing, administering, and evaluating the operations of a division in a functional department and for representing the Division, Department, Agency and County as required. The class of Assistant Deputy Director, Community Development Agency, is distinguished from that of Deputy Director, Community Development Agency, in that the former has responsibility for a division within a functional department while the latter has responsibility for a functional department.
In addition to meeting the minimum qualifications stated below, the ideal candidate will have demonstrated a track record of success in the following areas:
• Experience in Public Health, Housing, Policy Development and Program Planning.
• Experience in developing and implementing Environmental, Lead and Public Health Programs.
• Experience in seeking innovative strategic funding sources.
• Ability to use interpersonal styles and methods to inspire and guide individual toward higher levels of performance.
• Demonstrate traits and dispositions that characterize successful leaders; exhibiting behavior styles that meet the demands of Leadership roles.
The equivalent of two years of full-time experience as Senior Planner, Housing and Community Development Manager, or equivalent or higher level class in the Alameda County classified service. (Non-classified includes District Attorney’s Office, Hospital Authority, and the Consolidated Courts.)
Possession of a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university
The equivalent of five years of full-time experience in a community and economic development agency that included the equivalent of two years of full-time supervisory and administrative experience.
NOTE: A Master's degree in city, regional, urban or environmental planning from an accredited college or university, based on a two-year curriculum, may be substituted for the equivalent of two years of the non-supervisory experience, OR a Master’s degree in architecture, landscape architecture, engineering, economics, health care, public or environmental health, or social science may be substituted for one year of the non-supervisory experience.
Lead Poisoning Prevention Specialty
The additional requirements are: Two additional years of experience directly managing health and housing programs that included direct administration of HUD grants; medical and environmental management of lead-poisoned children; conducting training for local health professionals on blood lead screening activities, environmental assessments and follow-up; and providing education programs regarding childhood lead poisoning prevention strategies.
Must be willing to participate in evening meetings.

· Relocation planning, environmental, case management and lead remediation techniques.

· Plan, organize, and administer the work of a division within a functional department of a community development agency.
· Interpret and apply zoning and other code-enforcement regulations and planning concepts to unusual or difficult land use problems.
· Interpret and apply public health and lead poisoning policy regulations to health providers and community groups.

· Analyze and review staff reports and recommendations on community development projects.
· Work effectively with commissions, boards, medical providers, community based organizations and private organizations concerning matters of real property uses, related planning functions and lead poisoning issues.
· Coordinate independent community development and environmental and public health studies of a difficult and complex nature.

THE EXAMINATION WILL CONSIST OF the following steps: 1) A review of candidates' applications to verify possession of minimum requirements. Those candidates who possess the minimum requirements for the class will move on to the next step in the examination process. 2) A review of candidates’ Supplemental Questionnaires to select the best qualified applicants to continue in the process. 3) An oral interview which will be weighted as 100% of the candidate's final examination score. The oral interview may contain situational exercises. CANDIDATES MUST ATTAIN A QUALIFYING RATING ON EACH PORTION OF THIS EXAMINATION.
