DESCRIPTION

Under close supervision, in a training capacity, to learn fundamentals used in appraising real property; to attend classes in real property appraisal; to assist with the more routine duties involved in making appraisals of real property; and to do related work as required.

DISTINGUISHING FEATURES

This is a trainee class designed to allow persons without a college degree entry into the Appraiser Series. Employees serve a two-year internship in which they receive on-the-job training and are provided paid time off to complete necessary requirements leading to a B.A. degree in two years. At the completion of the training program, Appraiser Interns are expected to qualify for appointment to the Appraiser I classification.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

NOTE: The following are the duties performed by employees in this classification. However, employees may perform other related duties at an equivalent level. Each individual in the classification does not necessarily perform all duties listed.

1. Learns the duties involved in making appraisals of real property, learns to measure, plot, and describe construction characteristics of residential of residential buildings; learns to classify structures according to quality of construction, shape, and use; learns to estimate construction costs and depreciation; learns to assemble and analyze sales, neighborhood, and to make an appraisal; learns to correlate the indicators of value obtained through application of the summation approach and market approach in arriving at market value of real properties being appraised.

2. Attends college class; attends training classes.

3. Performs routine duties relating to appraisal functions necessary for completion of the assessment roll.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Either I

Must have a sufficient number of college credits to be able to acquire a bachelor’s degree within two years.

Or II

Some acceptable combination of education and appropriate experience.

License:

Possession of a valid California Motor Vehicle Operator’s license.
