DESCRIPTION
Under general direction, to plan, organize and direct the work of the Printing Services Division of the General Services Agency; to provide graphic design, offset printing, high-speed copying, color copying and bindery services to County departments; and to do related work as required.


DISTINGUISHING FEATURES

Manager, Printing Services, is a one-position classification located in the General Services Agency. The Manager is responsible for coordinating the activities to meet service requests. Immediate supervision of production work may be assigned to the Assistant Manager. The Manager, Printing Services Division, is responsible for departmental budget, personnel, and organization of production.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
NOTE: The following are the duties performed by employees in this classification. However, employees may perform other related duties at an equivalent level. Each individual in the classification does not necessarily perform all duties listed.

1. Directs the work of the Printing Services Division, including graphic design, printing, pre-press, copying and bindery service; and makes recommendations or decisions about employee, procedural and equipment problems; approves working schedules and production priorities.

2. Confers with representatives of other departments to plan, schedule and coordinate bindery and reproduction work; informs departments of work progress, makes suggestions, and expedites department needs.

3. Supervises the maintenance of cost accounting records for billing County departments for services rendered.

4. Interviews and appoints new employees; oversees their in-service training; reviews and evaluates work performance.

5. Prepares annual budget forecasts and requests; approves requisitions for supplies and material.

6. Oversees division computer operations; uses computer estimating and job tracking systems; develops and directs electronic file transfer and digital reprographics activities.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Either I

The equivalent of one year of full-time experience in the class of Assistant Manager, Printing Services Division, or the equivalent of three years of experience as a Pre-Press Technician, Offset Equipment Operator, Senior Offfset Equipment Operator, or Bindery Worker in the Printing Services Division of the General Services Agency in the Alameda County classified service. (Non-classified includes District Attorney’s Office, Hospital Authority, and the Consolidated Courts.)

Or II

The equivalent of five years of recent full-time experience in one of the printing trades (printing, pre-press, graphic design or bindery), including at least the equivalent of three years in a supervisory capacity in a commercial or government printing establishment.

NOTE: The Civil Service Commission may modify the above Minimum Qualifications in the announcement of an examination.
