DESCRIPTION
Under general supervision, to provide support functions to ACERA; provide a variety of information and referral services to ACERA clients; and to perform other related clerical duties as required.

DISTINGUISHING FEATURES

This is a single position classification unique to ACERA, and reports to the Assistant Benefits Manager. The incumbent is responsible for eliciting and providing information to a large volume of ACERA members and deals directly with all official visitors, including ACERA Board members, consultants and attorneys.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
NOTE: The following are the duties performed by employees in this classification. However, employees may perform other related duties at an equivalent level. Each individual in the classification does not necessarily perform all duties listed.

1. Greets each caller, visitor to ACERA’s offices; assesses retirement information needs and provides the member with the appropriate information; makes referrals and explains rules and regulations.
2. Refers members to appropriate personnel to ensure that member issues and complaints are resolved.
3. Acts as liaison between members, ACERA staff and Board, attorneys, and a variety of consultants and providers.
4. Documents in-person or telephone contacts, maintaining activity logs to ensure quality service and follow-through.
5. Describes and explains general information about ACERA plans, programs, functions and available assistance and resources.
6. Designs forms; develops and maintains data collection instruments (logs, surveys, etc.); documents and maintains procedures; prepares and distributes member correspondence, forms; may assist with preparation of brochures and articles for ACERA News.
7. Manages multiple phone lines and coordinates with ACERA customer service personnel to ensure adequate phone and reception desk coverage.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Either I

The equivalent of one year of full-time experience in the class of Specialist Clerk I or an equivalent or higher level clerical class in the Alameda County classified service. (Non-classified includes District Attorney’s Office, Hospital Authority, and the Consolidated Courts.)

Or II

The equivalent of two years of full-time clerical experience which included public contact in a California Public Retirement System.

NOTE: The Civil Service Commission may modify the Minimum Qualification in the announcement of an examination.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
NOTE: The level and scope of the following knowledge and abilities are related to duties listed under the “Examples of Duties” section of this specification.

Knowledge of:

• Basic math and spelling.
• Alpha and numeric filing systems.
• Provisions of the 1937 County Employees Retirement Law or similar statutes.
• Word processing and spreadsheet applications and data entry skills.
• Calculators and their functions.
• Correct usage of English, including punctuation, spelling and grammar.
